The Volvo P1800 is obviously a beautiful car. Designed in Italy in 1957, its genetic history is obvious in its subtle rear fins and Ferrari like proportions. Combine its aesthetic attributes with it's Swedish built quality and reliability, and you have an amazing classic car.
By 1972, the Volvo 1800E came with the 2.0 Liter B20 fuel injected engine. This is where the Ferrari comparison ends....an engine that's not overly exciting, but is completely rock solid.
This particular car has only had one prior owner, who drove it all over the world. He was a Vietnam Veteran.....a Marine who was awarded a Silver Star for extreme heroism. I bought the car from his brother, who was handling his estate. If you want to know more, you can Google the name on the original title. I'm sure this car could tell some stories!
Overall, the car was obviously well cared for. The original owner's brother reported that this Volvo was his pride and joy. There was one repaint in the past, in the original color. It appears that some rust repair was performed at that time, and the paint in those areas is discolored versus the rest of the car. The interior appears original, with no splits in the seats or major issues.
The car drives beautifully. I felt an immediate connection, similar to when I first drove my E36 BMW M3. I honestly enjoy driving it more than any other classic car I've owned, with the possible exception of my old '72 911.
This one's a driver. Mechanically solid, beautiful to look at, and with the added bonus of enjoying the quizzical looks of every passer by. You can almost hear them thinking, "what is that?!".
Looks great and drives better!
