I purchased this beautiful Alfa as a partially completed project, which is almost always a bad idea, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to get this car back on the road where it belongs. Also, in my defense, the car was down to the bare metal, so all prior work was on full display. And, the restoration work is being performed by the Smiekel Collection. Pat Smiekel and his team are well known experts in the Alfa community and have had several cars on the lawn at Pebble Beach.
As you can see, the metal work was completed and the car was sprayed in the rare Alfa color of Oceana Verde. I think the results are fairly stunning. The bumpers and trim have all been replated and most pieces have been reinstalled on the car at this point.
The Veloce engine has been completely rebuilt, as has the transmission and transaxle. The suspension was disassembled, powder coated, rebushed, and reassembled. As you can see, the rare parts are all there, which is fairly important since only 1,400 Giulia Sprint Speciales were built.
Update: The Alfa SS is back on the road, interior is installed, and it's now just a matter of putting on some miles and doing the shake down.
This should be an interesting and rewarding restoration to complete, so follow along as we keep making progress.
