About Us

Are you ready to go for a ride?

We love classic cars.  Anything from a disassembled project to a Concourse winner at Amelia Island.  But, mainly we love seeing them on the road.  Our objective at MVP Classic Rides is to get you into the car of your dreams and out onto the road.   We specialize in mechanically excellent vehicles that will give you the confidence to jump in and go for a ride!  All of our classic cars have been inspected by mechanics who specialize in collector vehicles and personally driven by the owner to ensure they are mechanically sound.   We encourage you to perform a pre-purchase inspection as well, either personally or through a third party expert.

About the owner

At 10 years old, Max Vander Ploeg would ride his bike to the 7-11 store to buy the latest copy of the Antique, Classic, & Sportscar Trader and Hemmings Motor News with his lawn mowing money.  At 15, Max bought his first car for $50.  A burned up, 1965 Beetle, which he spent the next year restoring (yeah, that's me with the car at 23).  Over 40 years and many cars later, his passion  for classic and collector cars has not subsided.   Do you have a car you've always dreamt of owning?  We can help!

Where our cars live

Our classic rides live in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina, just 10 minutes from the Asheville airport, between Asheville and Hendersonville.  If purchasing and driving your classic car home, we'll be glad to pick you up from the airport.  It's a beautiful drive no matter which direction you head.

    1972 Volvo 1800E

    $24,500

Recently purchased from the original owner's estate, this 1972 Volvo 1800E, has an amazing history.  Originally purchased by a Silver Star decorated Vietnam Veteran, who became close friends with Colonel Oliver North after the Colonel saved his life.  While stationed in Europe, the original owner purchased this car and drove it all over Europe and America.  Combine great looks, rock solid reliability, and relative rarity, and you have one of the most undervalued collector cars in today's market.

    1970 Jaguar E-Type Convertible

    Sold!

A numbers matching Jaguar E-Type Roadster with correct colors per British Motor Heritage Trust Certificate.  Mechanically restored, including rebuilt engine, rebuilt carbs, new ignition system, new fuel delivery system, and rebuilt front suspension/brakes/steering rack.  The paint still holds up well, with some dings a great driver or take to the next level with some rear apron rust repair and an interior refresh.  Or, better yet, just drive it as is and don't worry about another ding or scratch

1963 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale

    $175,000

Fresh off of a concourse restoration by Alfa experts in Ventura, CA.  A very rare and beautiful car.  I'm keeping this one for a little while!  See restoration here.

    1965 Sunbeam Tiger Mk 1A

    Sold!

Fresh from a rotisserie restoration, including a rebuild of the Ford 260 engine and transmission.  Painted in it's original color of British Racing (Forest) Green combined with a fresh tan interior, this Tiger is a real standout.  The perfect blend of British sports car and American muscle.

    1965 Porsche 356C

    Sold!

Just acquired from its long term owner, this Porsche 356C has almost 40 years of receipts and an engine replacement with a 356SC engine.   This genuine SC engine recently received new heads, pistons, and cylinders from John Wilhoit, as well as rebuilt Solex carburetors from 356 Carburetor Rescue, and a correct rebuilt Bosch distributor from Vintage Werks.  A great driving car that gives you an instant feeling of connection.

    Sold

Wish I could keep them all!

    1957 Austin Healey 100-6

    Sold

A beautiful Austin Healey that was subject to a 4 year, nut and bolt restoration.  British Motor Heritage Trust Certificate numbers matching.

    1967 Chevrolet C-10

Mechanically restored, with an inline 6 cylinder engine and 3 speed, column shifted transmission.  Tired paint and rust in the sills, but a great driver.

    1963 Corvette Convertible

    Sold

Rotisserie restored Corvette C2 convertible with 327ci, 340HP motor, and 4 speed Muncie transmission.  Very rare, original color combination.  One of 1100 cars with leather, Saddle colored seats.  This one gets attention!

    1969 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750

    Sold

This beautiful Alfa Romeo GTV was recently purchased from a long time owner of 40 years who purchased the car in 1978.  He was an active member of the Canadian Alfa Romeo Club and kept meticulous records and receipts during his many years of ownership.  A complete, rotisserie restoration was completed in 2003, again with extensive photographic and written documentation.   Drives as great as it looks!

    1950 Volkswagen Beetle Deluxe

    Sold

This 1950 split window Beetle has received a nut and bolt restoration.  Numbers matching in its original colors, every effort has been made to ensure that all components are authentic and correct.

    1999 BMW M3

    Sold

The E36 M3 is a great driving car.  In my opinion, probably the last BMW that you could really feel a connection with, prior to electronics and driver aids getting in the way.  This one has only 19k miles on it and has a beautiful interior.

Driving your classic dream car home?

It's definitely a beautiful ride home, no matter which way you're heading.  While our classic cars have all been highly maintained and driven regularly, be aware that these are typically 50+ year old cars....be prepared with tools, typical spare parts, and contacts from local marquee club members along your route.  As noted, the cars are sold as is, with no warranty or guarantee that there will not be an issue along the way.  But, it's almost certain that it will be an adventure that you'll never forget!
